Introduction
This portfolio is a collection of work done by Xinhui Du (Emily), a first-year Translation & Localization Management student at Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS), during the course of Introductory Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) in 2014 Fall.
The portfolio contains a CAT utility demo—Hightail—accomplished by 2 people. Hightail is mainly a file sharing tool that can be accessed either through their website or by downloading a free app. It offers up to 250MB of space for a single file and also provides file protection.
A group project is also included in the portfolio. The project is a translation of an excerpt of the HK government financial report using Memsource. It demonstrates the core functionalities of Memsource, including alignment, translation memory (TM), glossary, translation and editing, quality assurance (QA), and project management.
Last but not least, the portfolio contains an individual project as well, which is based on a real translation case for a start-up company E2E based in Medellin, Columbia. The primary CAT tool used in this case—Wordfast Anywhere—is analyzed and compared against the industry benchmarks Trados and MemoQ, followed by long-term translation management suggestions to the company.
